Two Years–Gone in One Blink

Filed under: Bethany, Everyday, Photos, Updates — Tags: , , , — Camille @ 12:34 am

Today is Bethany’s second birthday. It really feels like just yesterday, or just last week, I was bringing her home from the hospital. Bethy is such an amazing girl. She has a very sweet personality, and she’s very bright.

Recently, I’ve been teaching her letters. She had been showing interest, so I took advantage of the opportunity. The thing is, she seems to really understand letters. We purchased a game on the XBox-flashcards. It displays numbers, letters, colors, shapes, etc like regular flashcards, and a voice names whatever is being displayed. I play this a couple times a week, and Bethy watches intently, repeating back each word. The other day she was repeating the letters, and when it got to Z, instead of saying Z she yelled “zebra!” (No, there was no pictures of zebras displayed). Yesterday I sat down with her, and went through a book ok letters, having her repeat the letter back to me. For the letter B, she said “B…baby!” Then C, “c…couch!” Again, no pictures, she is making the assocation between the letter and the sound, and I find this amazing. Maybe it’s average, but I think it’s amazing! =)

Today for her birthday, we had a fairly normal day. Dan is out of town for a business trip, so we’re waiting until Saturday to really celebrate. My sister-in-law sent her a jewelry box full of play jewelry, and she is so excited about it. She keeps wearing the jewelry and throwing it all over the floor. Everytime I try to put it back in the box she yells “no mommy! mine!”

I baked her a cake and my parents and my sister came over. She opened up one gift from my parents, and I bought her a very large balloon shaped like a cupcake. Her and Daniel have been fighting over it ever since I brought it home. Of course, he’s also adopted her play jewelry, and you’ll notice in the photos below, that sparkly necklaces look great with his Hulk t-shirt.

After we ate cake, the kids had an instant sugar rush, and went into super hyper mode. Daniel picked up an electrical cord (a short 3 foot one), and draped it over his shoulders and around the back of his neck, then he’d yell “ready! 1-2-3-4-5-6, GO!” and start pounding both ends of the cord on my canister vacuum cleaner. I’m assuming he was pretending each end of the cord was a drum stick. Bethy would then dance around, and slap her hands on her knees in rhythm to Daniel’s drum playing. (Talented kids I have)! Addison was really enjoying the music, and sat on the floor rocking to the beat. Whenever they stopped she also stopped and looked around, as if questioning where the music went. Then they’d start up again, and so would she, with a smile on her face.

And now for a few photos (Click on Thumbnail to view larger)!

In a Day

Filed under: Addison, Baby, Bethany, Daniel, Everyday, Marriage, Mommy Moments — Tags: , , , , — Camille @ 4:08 pm

In order of time, the highlights* of my day are:

Dan leaves for work, and I get the entire bed to myself for a couple more hours of sleep.

Addison wakes up, and I put her in bed with me to nurse, she falls back asleep with the most content look on her face, and I get to fall back asleep too.

Daniel wakes me up, usually holding a granola bar, fruit snacks, apple, or whatever else he feels like eating, and asks me to open/make specific food item for him.

I walk down the hall to Bethy’s room, get her out of her crib and she holds me hand tightly as we walk down each stair.

Dan gets home from work, and the older two kids hear him put the key in the door, they run screaching and laughing, so excited to see him, as though it’s been days or weeks.

The older two kids are in bed for the night, and Dan and I get to have adult time, to talk about what we would do if we had a million dollars, or what we would do if we were dirt poor, talk about the kids, his work, our weekend plans, watch our TV shows, have sarcastic conversations that don’t mean anything, but we both laughed for a few minutes.

Bonus: When I magically get all 3 kids to nap at the same time, and I really get ME time, I can do whatever I want (within the walls of my house, or, better yet, my property lines). I can choose to nap too, or read, or browse the internet, call friends, sit outside, clean house, be still, do my hair. Maybe I should be cleaning or doing laundry, but I’m rewarding myself for getting ALL THREE kids to sleep at the same time! There’s always tomorrow.

*Of course, I have many other highlights in my day. For now, at this stage in life, these are my favorite that I can count on day to day.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions…

Filed under: Baby, Everyday, Products, opinions — Camille @ 11:00 am

I’ve been going back and forth with the idea of cloth diapering. It just seems inconvenient, but I know a few moms who cloth diaper, and they love it more than anything. So I’ve been talking with them about it, and I think I’m going to go for it.

It will be cheaper in the long run, but the upfront investment, I just do not have at this time. I like the idea of a one-size/all-in-one cloth diaper, because it works just like a disposable diaper, but you just wash it instead of throw it out. And because it’s one-size (adjustable), I wouldn’t have to worry about buying multiple sizes. There are a few accessories I’d have to buy, but overall, the savings would add up over the course of 2 or so years of a baby in cloth diapers vs. disposable.

After doing some research, I really like the idea of the All in one BumGenius Organic diapers. Now I just need to save up to buy an 18 or 24 pack!

Still here

Filed under: Baby, Bethany, Daniel, Everyday, Updates — Camille @ 12:31 am

I’m still alive! I’ve had one compute problem after another these past few months (and I’m married to a super nerd, how does this make sense?)

So I haven’t had much time for blogging.

Daniel turned 3 last month, Bethany is one today, and I’m 23 weeks pregnant, with Addison Ruth (that’s her name, at least for now!)

A Wife of Noble Character

Filed under: Everyday, Marriage, Wife, opinions — Camille @ 9:25 pm

For the past couple months, I’ve been studying Proverbs 31, and how to apply it to my life, to be a better (Christian/Biblical) wife and mom. I think many people view me as someone who has no goals. I didn’t finish college, and I currently have no plans to. I’m a stay at home mom, and there’s no place else I’d rather be!

I was recently discussing all of this with my husband, and told him my goals are his goals. It’s not that I can’t think for myself, but he is the head of our household, and it’s my job to support him, and be by his side, raising our children to the best of my ability. It’s his job to provide the income so we can have a roof over our heads, and food on the table, and he should leave for work each day, trusting that our kids will be fed, changed, washed, and cared for by me. Some of these things may be considered old fashion, but I consider myself to be pretty old fashioned! I am an absolute failure in the kitchen, but that’s something I’m GOING to improve! I am learning to sew more and more (baby blankets count!) and I’m going to home school our children. When we own a home, I’d also love to plant a small garden, and have a few chickens for fresh eggs.

This is obviously just a tiny part of being a Proverbs 31 Woman, I’m going to copy and paste the verses here (NIV version), and I’d really love feedback on what you’re doing to be a Wife of Noble Character? What struggles do you have? What have you learned? Advice, tips, comments?

10 [c] A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.

11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.

12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.

14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.

15 She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.

16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.

18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.

19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.

21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.

26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

31 Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Daniels (almost) 17 month update

Filed under: Everyday, Photos, Updates — Camille @ 11:40 am

I thought I should give a little update about Daniel and his developments. Daniel will be 17 months on the 10th of this month. He still doesn’t walk, although he can, it just isn’t his preferred method of transportation. He has this silly crawl, if you can call it that, where he has one foot flat on the ground, knees bent, in a kneeling position, and then he drags the other leg behind him. I actually tried to imitate this the other day, and its very painful, I have no clue why he does this!

He has 16 teeth, we haven’t seen any new ones for almost 3 months, and I’m enjoying the teething break.

He is enjoying learning new words, his favorite seems to be “hi!” with a backwards wave (waving with his palm opening and closing facing himself). He doesn’t talk in sentences, but is enjoying repeating words he hears often. He has been saying “mommy/mama/mum” since 8 months, and added “dada/daddy” to that about 2 months later. But now he’ll say “coo coo” imitating the clock at my parents house, he says “thank you” and “poo poo” which I accidently taught him when changing his diaper. The other day we took him to a park with a lake and ducks, and after I said “duckies” a few times, he started repeating it back. When he tries to say his name, it comes out as “Naniel.”

He is enjoying trying to play catch, hiding from us under a blanket, while we ask “where’s Daniel?” and he loves toys that make noise. (He enjoys banging on the piano when we take him to “Mimi’s and Papa’s house”). He loves swinging on the swings at the park, and is starting to enjoy sliding down the slide on his own. He also loves the water, so hopefully I’ll get him in a swimming class when the weather is hot enough.

Daniel is absolutely fearless of dogs, which is probably both good and bad, but I wish we had one for him to play with.

As always, he is so much fun and he makes Dan and I laugh daily!

Disneyland!

Filed under: Everyday, Photos — Camille @ 10:22 pm
Today my mom and I took Daniel, and my niece Keilah to Disneyland. Technically, it was not Daniel’s first trip to Disneyland, but it was the first time he was able to enjoy it. And he had a blast! He only got fussy when he was tired of being in the stroller. Once we let him loose in Toontown he was great. He was exploring everything. Keilah had a great time too!

New Toy!

Filed under: Everyday — Camille @ 7:05 pm
Auntie Liz and Uncle Brett were just out here visiting from Texas, and they bought Daniel this belated birthday present. It’s a “play tent.” A 6 foot long tube, that can attach to additional tubes for more play space. Daniel has spent hours in this thing. The box says ages 3 and up, but my 16 month old is loving it. I think every toddler should have one!

25; going on 45?

Filed under: Everyday, Medical, Mommy Moments — Camille @ 11:40 pm
I hate it when you’re purchasing something and the cashier studies your selections, as though it’s any of his/her concern what you’re buying. Especially when what you are buying is personal.

Such was the case at Barnes & Noble the other night. I miss Borders, but I don’t live near one anymore.

I suppose the male cashier at B&N had a reason to look at my purchaes, then give me funny looks. I am only 25, and probably don’t look much older than 22 or 23. I don’t say that with bragging rights, it’s been kind of a curse. But I went to Barnes & Noble, headed straight for the magazine section, which is my favorite section at any store. I “fake” grocery shopping just so I can pick up a few new magazines. I grabbed the new Pregnancy and Newborn magazine, even though I’m not pregnant, and I don’t have a newborn, somehow I feel like having as much information as possible will get me pregnant sooner. It really won’t. Then I looked through the other family magazines, and grabbed Conceive Magazine, and Fertility Today, headed to the Fiction and Literature section, spent some time choosing two Michael Crichton books, then went to pay.

Seriously what has come over me? I have a 15 month old son, and I had a miscarriage. I don’t have infertility issues, I don’t need IVF, I’m 25 and have probably another 15 years left of possible baby making. What I really need here is a whole lot of patience. I’m sure if I had actually thought about why the cashier was giving me funny looks, I could have put back 80% of what I was buying and saved about $30.

I read those magazines from front to back, and I didn’t learn anything new.
