In a Day

In order of time, the highlights* of my day are:

Dan leaves for work, and I get the entire bed to myself for a couple more hours of sleep.

Addison wakes up, and I put her in bed with me to nurse, she falls back asleep with the most content look on her face, and I get to fall back asleep too.

Daniel wakes me up, usually holding a granola bar, fruit snacks, apple, or whatever else he feels like eating, and asks me to open/make specific food item for him.

I walk down the hall to Bethy’s room, get her out of her crib and she holds me hand tightly as we walk down each stair.

Dan gets home from work, and the older two kids hear him put the key in the door, they run screaching and laughing, so excited to see him, as though it’s been days or weeks.

The older two kids are in bed for the night, and Dan and I get to have adult time, to talk about what we would do if we had a million dollars, or what we would do if we were dirt poor, talk about the kids, his work, our weekend plans, watch our TV shows, have sarcastic conversations that don’t mean anything, but we both laughed for a few minutes.

Bonus: When I magically get all 3 kids to nap at the same time, and I really get ME time, I can do whatever I want (within the walls of my house, or, better yet, my property lines). I can choose to nap too, or read, or browse the internet, call friends, sit outside, clean house, be still, do my hair. Maybe I should be cleaning or doing laundry, but I’m rewarding myself for getting ALL THREE kids to sleep at the same time! There’s always tomorrow.

*Of course, I have many other highlights in my day. For now, at this stage in life, these are my favorite that I can count on day to day.

A Wife of Noble Character

Filed under: Everyday, Marriage, Wife, opinions — Camille @ 9:25 pm

For the past couple months, I’ve been studying Proverbs 31, and how to apply it to my life, to be a better (Christian/Biblical) wife and mom. I think many people view me as someone who has no goals. I didn’t finish college, and I currently have no plans to. I’m a stay at home mom, and there’s no place else I’d rather be!

I was recently discussing all of this with my husband, and told him my goals are his goals. It’s not that I can’t think for myself, but he is the head of our household, and it’s my job to support him, and be by his side, raising our children to the best of my ability. It’s his job to provide the income so we can have a roof over our heads, and food on the table, and he should leave for work each day, trusting that our kids will be fed, changed, washed, and cared for by me. Some of these things may be considered old fashion, but I consider myself to be pretty old fashioned! I am an absolute failure in the kitchen, but that’s something I’m GOING to improve! I am learning to sew more and more (baby blankets count!) and I’m going to home school our children. When we own a home, I’d also love to plant a small garden, and have a few chickens for fresh eggs.

This is obviously just a tiny part of being a Proverbs 31 Woman, I’m going to copy and paste the verses here (NIV version), and I’d really love feedback on what you’re doing to be a Wife of Noble Character? What struggles do you have? What have you learned? Advice, tips, comments?

10 [c] A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.

11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.

12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.

14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.

15 She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.

16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.

18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.

19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.

21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.

26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

31 Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
